Point $ICS_MHS_DATA_ROOT directly at /data

ics_config sets some global environment variables, for data, software, logging. All are rooted under a single directory, which is /software/mhs at Subaru and some other places. So $ICS_MHS_DATA_ROOT is a symbolic link from /software/mhs/data to /data. Not terribly important, but that indirection should probably be removed since it puts an additional filesystem between a a program and the images.
