 Description   

PIPE2D-309 introduces a design for the 2D pipeline. The current pipeline needs to be modified to correspond to that design. Dummy modules should be introduced for the algorithmic modules that don't currently have implementations, which will allow implementations to be developed.

This become a frankenticket, with the work from several other tickets bolted on in an effort to prepare for the 5.0 release. It was released internally via Slack, and hassan played with it to verify it, the integration test works and Travis passes. Merged to master and tagged 5.0.
