for those interested, the answer was passing in num_proc argument in SeparablePipelineExecutor.run_pipeline()
executor.run_pipeline(graph=quantumGraph, num_proc=nCores) that wasn't necessary in lsst-pipe-7 but something changed with lsst-pipe-9.
