A couple of points I'd like to make explicit. There will always be 6 image HDUs per exposure. If a camera is not connected, etc. the image will be full-sized, but all BLANKs. Regardless of the compression we select, this should compress well. Each image HDU will have its own pretty complete header, including of course the WCS. Aside from the WCS, the bulk of the cards will be identical for all six cameras. Given the not-huge number of cards that should not be too silly. We could have a per-exposure HDU in addition to the six image HDUs. That does not feel better to me. |
