 Description   

The grandfibermap data file gives the cobra-to-slit fiber mappings, and uses a single "fiber id" which includes the field, spectrograph, an MTP number, and the cobra-in-module number.

That ID may or may not be the right one, given what we now know about the A-B-C MTP mappings.

In any case, we need to add all the MTP mapping for the end-to-end system.

Also, we are adding SuNSS, and it might be worth adding the SuNSS fiber ids to grandfibermap.

SuNSS can be connected each spectrograph. Should the grand fiber map duplicate SuNSS IDs for each spectrograph?

Personally, I think that the sunss mapping should be to the Cable B connector, if that works. Namely, to U1-N-3-4-5, etc. The mapping routine could apply the right N, and get the right slit hole.

Well, I'm expecting you'd like to have one column for the SuNSS ID in the grand fiber map...

Either way is fine. To be specific:

  • have a separate SuNSS-BA map with the SM left undefined, where a function applies the SM number to the BA map before joining with the GFM.
  • add a sunss column (or a pair? imaging/diffuse and fiber id?), where a function chooses the rows for the correct sp value.

The second does look less likely to confuse people.

Two small-ish requests. If we do these now I think we only need to update the datafile and the code once for a group of similar issues:

  • could you add a "module" columns which would be 1-42 module number. ($fld-1)*42 + $mf, I think.
  • could you add a "board number" column (1A, 1B, ... 42A, 42B), where the board is A if $cm is odd, B if $cm is even. Or I guess just A/B, and we could use the "module" column for the module.

The remaining item for GFM or an associated table is how to encode the engineering fibers and the blanks, so that every slit hole can be described.

Yes, I'm aware of this modification, but may I file another ticket to handle all kinds of modification? I'm also aware another ticket (INSTRM-1138).. I mean, close this ticket with sunss id, so that DRP can process the SuNSS data. I'll work other modification under separate ticket.

I asked Jim to check the new map, and it looks OK. I merged the branch and close this ticket..
Other updates commented here will be handled in INSTRM-1138.
