Better handling of updateTelStatus timeouts

We have been increasing the timeout of the updateTelStatus call but it seems like the call is never going to return so we need to handle the error better. A separate ticket should be made to actually figure out why the call never returns.

The simplest would be to just skip the loop iteration when this happens.
